Impact Of Teen Career Connection

2013 TCC Alum Mahin Rahaman

My name is Mahin Rahaman and I have recently graduated from NYU with a full-time job offer at Mastercard as an Associate Analyst starting this August. I wanted to open with this introduction because none of it would have been possible had I not been a part of TCC in the summer of 2013.

The experience truly changed my life in all dimensions. I applied to the position on a whim from a posting sent by my guidance counselor at the Bronx High School of Science. After acceptance into the program, I had no idea the level of impact if would have on me as a professional and as a person. At the time, I was passionate about making a difference to the world, International Relations, and working at the UN. TCC placed me in the internship of my dreams — a chance to work at the UNFCU.

Because of this program, I had a strong resume, Linkedin profile, conflict resolution skills, and an idea of what a corporate environment feels like all at the age of 15. As first-generation college student born to working class immigrant parents, there was no other way I would have this type of exposure to the real world. With the learning from this experience, I was able to land future internships with ease, was confident in any work environment, knew how to grow from critiques, and learned to take initiative in order to work on projects that I’m truly passionate about.

I am beyond grateful, and no typed set of words can truly express how thankful I am for this opportunity.
